Craving Distant Tides
63
His eyes slowly opened as his resolve wavered, and Oron pushed the shirt from his shoulders. “The cameras, Oron. They can see us.”
“Cameras?”
“Ways for my bosses to see me without being in the room.”
“I will not take you, Namaru. Not here. We will be together soon, but you are not ready yet.”
The reassurance sealed the deal for Adam, and Oron seemed to sense his acquiescence as he moved back from the edge a foot or two and beckoned him in. Adam toed off his shoes and placed them on the top step of the ladder, tucking his socks into them as he did so. He shimmied out of his pants and tried to not blush scarlet as he remembered that his boss was probably getting a full view of his naked body. He mentally shrugged. Dr. Jacobs had demanded he use the mutual attraction to get more data from Oron. It only made sense that he would do this. However, if Dr. Jacobs thought he’d give up anything that would harm Oron’s chances of leaving or give the scientists a critical weakness where the merman was concerned, he had another thing coming. The possessive and protective instinct wasn’t unfamiliar to him. I’m starting to care about him. Christ. He resolved not to think about how the physical and mental attraction to the merman was building a relationship between them that was far from platonic until he was safely back in his room.
Determined, he put his legs under the railing of the ladder and let his feet sink into the lukewarm water. Oron held still a few feet away as if he were afraid that he would spook him.
“If I get all the way in, you’re going to have to help me out of the pool afterwards.” He felt like he had to voice that. He did not want to get stuck in the water because he hadn’t been smart enough to figure out a way out.
That mysterious smirk found its way back onto Oron’s face. “I will assist you in any way you desire.” It seemed he was promising so much more than the actual words implied. Adam glanced down into the water, gave himself a mental push, and slid into the water.
